KDT is pleased to announce Billy Merasty Award Winning Actor will join the cast of TransMigration
Kaha:wi Dance Theatre (KDT) welcomes celebrated Indigenous actor Billy Merasty to the TransMigration cast. Billy will be joining KDT on the upcoming National tour, which is based on the life and paintings of Ojibwe shaman-artist Norval Morrisseau. Billy will be portraying the main role of "The Artist", the embodiment of Norval Morrisseau (*with the permission of Canadian Actors' Equity Association).
KDT is thrilled to be working with Billy as he brings a wealth of experience to the production. Billy is a graduate from the Native Theatre School now known as the Centre for Indigenous Theatre (CIT) and was awarded the Order of Manitoba (Order of the Buffalo Hunt) in recognition for his contributions as an Indigenous role model from Manitoba. Billy will bring his vast array of performance experience to TransMigration and his extensive research of Norval Morrisseau's art and persona.

Billy Merasty (Cree) has been in a variety in roles as he is celebrating 31 years in the Performing Arts. Some of his recent Theatre Credits include: 'Sal Capone' by Omari Newton, 'King Lear' (NAC), 'Where The Blood Mixes' by Kevin Loring, and 'Ghost Dance' (Creede [Colorado] Repertory Theatre Co). Some of his television credits include: 'Murdoch Mysteries' (CBC), 'Moby Dick' (Starz Entertainment), 'Elijah' (CTV), 'Hard Rock Medical' (TVO), 'We Shall Remain' (PBS), and, 'Moose TV' (APTN). Billy is currently the Playwright in Residence for Native Earth Performance Arts. Billy is very honoured to be working for Santee Smith's KDT in TransMigrationand is so looking forward to the tour.
